Remember when him not releasing his tax forms was a big deal? And remember when there was so much other bullshit in rapid succession that everyone stopped talking about it?

He may be a monster, but unfortunately he isn’t stupid. This was the end game.

How can we fix it? I don’t think we do. The lack of consequences then has become a lack of consequences in perpetuity.

Trump has rotted out US institutions from the inside. There is no more land they can conquer, and the treat machine is going to need to throttle down. The neoliberal institutions will be unable to manage this decline. I don’t think fascism is popular or competent enough in the information age to fill the gap that will be left behind, but I’m also not ruling it out at the moment.

With sufficient resistance to exploitation (via drone warfare, and other means), the settlers colonial US identity won’t have anything to bind it together. Us on the left should be prepared for this to happened over the coming decades.

I understand what you mean but I would say the capitalist institutions were structurally sound and able to perperetuate capitalism/imperialism effectively across the continent and the world. I am not implying that Trump is an aberration of the system, but there is a difference in both the public faith in and competency of these institutions since 2016.
