The deal would include a December vote on a Democratic proposal to extend ACA tax credits for one year, multiple sources said. It would take 60 votes to pass.

What the fuck is this “deal would include a vote” shit I keep seeing.
This shit is like if a union were offered promise of a review of pay in a contract, instead of an actual promise of increased pay. A good union wouldn’t accept that shit ever because it could still result in not getting better pay.
I do not get it.
they’re caving with just enough plausible deniability to trick the average dem voter into thinking they tried - but tbh i don’t think many would buy it despite how gullible some of them can be
the turbo cynical take is that now that the election is over, they feel secure in not needing to do anything at all for their base, since they feel they can get votes by simply not being republicans
It more as if they need to reopen the government ASAP because the shutdown is actually starting to have serious effects now on things like air traffic and commercial aviation. No one wants to be blamed for messing with travel during November - December, the holidays. This isn’t just a rich people issue, the US has very little passenger rail and the country is huge, so people travel by plane to visit family across the nation. (This is my understanding as a non American). The Democrats got to use the shutdown to campaign, win some elections in blue states (with some big margins to be fair), cause some chaos in the Republican party as they deal with the electoral loss. So the Democrats got to have their fun, but now it’s time to actually get the government reopened before air travel gets completely gridlocked and Walmart goes broke because welfare programmes are suspended. The vote on the Affordable Care Act/ObamaCare tax credits is just a formality. It’s not serious.
Under developed country using air travel as a crutch for under developed basic infrastructure the rest of the developed world takes for granted.
That explanation seems incomplete. The election we just had showed that voters are not blaming Democrats for the shutdown, if air travel and food stamps are suspended they’d only benefit while Republicans eat all the blame.
I think the donors are just telling them to wrap it up. They got a win, time to go back to business as usual.
Just heard on local TV news…
Sens. Ruben Gallegos and Mark Kelly saw the same thing Awoo did and oppose the short term deal. But it looks like this shit is still going through.
